I apologise for the delay. Now, let's get going.

To begin with I shall only be teaching you the comparative basics of offensive magic, enough to use in self-defence. More advanced magical combat will only be taught to those who wish to pursue a career revolving around offensive magic (military, security etc.) or come to my office for a 'private discussion' about more...sinister possibilities.

Now, fireballs. Small fireballs are comparatively easy to produce. The greatest danger is in accidentally making them too large. I've enchanted this room in such a way as for outsize fireballs to be snuffed out but such precautions are time-consuming and inconvenient and I would appreciate not having to make a habit of it, so please pay close attention.

Hold up your stronger hand (or your left if you're ambidextrous) with your first and last fingers protruding and other digits clenched. Your arm should be straight in front of you and parallel with the floor. Face the targets at the other end of the classroom (the ones shaped as if wearing horned helmets). Now, visualising a very small fireball darting forth from your hand towards your target, bend your forearm back slowly (but not too slowly) as far as you can before bending it forwards again, firmly but not with excessive force, to an angle c. 45 degrees above the horizontal.

Good try, Aranel. You probably bent your arm forward too vigourously. The fact that this merely increased the longevity a small fireball rather than creating a larger one indicates the mental discipline necessary to prevent latter from occurring. Try again, slightly more slowly.

[Aranel]

*raises an eyebrow, the nods*

*tries once more, smirks smugly as she sees the helmet she was aiming for has melted*

That fireball was white-hot! Either you were thinking far too hard or you were extremely angry. Curb your emotion.

[Aranel]

*sighs angrily*
What's the fun in having a fireball that doesn't do much harm?
What'd be the point?
*places fist onto hip*

Rob, you will pay for that suit of armour from your teacher training allowance.

Halla, work on the aim, but well done otherwise - you appear to be able to control it well in other respects.

Bob, the scrolls you are comparatively easily replaceable, so you will not pay for them, but you will report to the kitchen after supper tonight for an hour of dish-washing.

I knew teaching this subject wouldn't be risk-free, but I wasn't expecting the destruction of a helmet, a suit of armour and seeral scrolls in the first lesson! Be more careful!

I have to wash dishes because my fireball hit Halla's! its not my fault he fired at the same time! I hardly find it fair to blame me for something that was as much his mistake as mine
